The development was disclosed in a statement shared on X by Bashir Ahmad, which noted that the decision followed a series of extensive consultations across key interest groups within the constituency.
The consultations reportedly involved party leaders, community elders, and other influential figures whose support is considered crucial ahead of party primaries.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” the statement read.
Yusuf Buhari’s move marks his first major step into active partisan politics, signalling a transition from private life into the public political arena.
Analysts say his decision could generate significant attention, given his family name and the enduring political influence of his late father, particularly in Katsina State and the wider northern region.
The Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency, located in Katsina State, has historically been regarded as a stronghold of the APC, raising expectations that the contest for the party’s ticket will be closely watched.
Political observers note that Yusuf Buhari’s anticipated entry could alter the dynamics within the party at the local level, especially as aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of the primaries.
While details of his policy agenda, campaign structure, and official declaration timeline remain undisclosed, Yusuf is expected to intensify consultations in the coming weeks.
Before the latest development, Yusuf is known to be silent in the political space especially when his father, the late President Buhari was alive.
